Gyro while Drilling (GWD) via wireline involves lowering a gyroscopic survey tool through the drill string to the bit, providing real-time, high-accuracy inclination and azimuth data.

    Product Description

    Vigor Gyro While Drilling (Wireline) is a wireline gyro system for Measurement While Drilling (MWD). It enables direct surface data reading via a cable and winch system, and provides real-time data to both the driller and remote users. The system is suitable for rotary steering. Its upgraded High-Precision version (HP-VGWD Wireline) is specifically designed for horizontal directional drilling (HDD) applications to deliver enhanced accuracy.

    Gyro while drilling, also known as gyroscopic surveying or gyroscopic drilling, is a technique used in the oil and gas industry for accurate wellbore positioning and directional drilling. It involves the use of a gyroscope tool to measure the inclination, azimuth, and toolface of a wellbore.

    Here's how Gyro while drilling drilling works:

    1.Gyroscope Tool: A gyroscopic tool is used, which contains a spinning gyroscope that maintains a fixed direction in space. It remains aligned with the Earth's true north, regardless of the wellbore's orientation.

     

    2.Running the Tool: The gyroscopic tool is run into the wellbore on the bottom of the drillstring. It can be run independently or as part of a bottomhole assembly (BHA) that includes other tools such as mud motors or rotary steerable systems.

     

    3.Gyroscopic Measurement: As the tool rotates with the drillstring, the gyroscope maintains its orientation. By measuring the precession (change in orientation) of the gyroscope, the tool can determine the wellbore's inclination (angle from vertical) and azimuth (horizontal direction).

     

    4. Surveying Intervals: To gather data along the wellbore, the drillstring is periodically stopped, and the gyroscope measurement is taken at specific survey intervals. These intervals can range from a few feet to several hundred feet, depending on the requirements of the well plan.

    5.Calculating Wellbore Position: Using the measurements from the gyroscopic tool, the data is processed to calculate the wellbore's position, which includes its XYZ coordinates (latitude, longitude, and depth) relative to a reference point.

     

    6.Wellbore Trajectory: The collected survey data allows for the construction of the wellbore's trajectory or path. By connecting the surveyed points, operators can determine the wellbore's shape, curvature, and direction.

     

    7.Steering and Correction: The trajectory data is used by drilling engineers to steer the wellbore in the desired direction. Corrections can be made in real-time using measurement-while-drilling (MWD) or logging-while-drilling (LWD) tools to adjust the drilling path and maintain accuracy.

    Gyro drilling is particularly useful in complex drilling scenarios, such as directional drilling, horizontal drilling, or drilling in offshore environments. It helps operators maintain wellbore placement within the target reservoir and avoid drilling into undesirable areas or neighboring wells. Accurate wellbore positioning is crucial for maximizing hydrocarbon recovery, optimizing drilling efficiency, and reducing drilling risks.
