Vigor Hydraulic-set Dual-String Production Packer(VHDP)
Product Description
The Vigor VHDP dual-string packer is a hydraulic-set, retrievable packer that isolates the annulus from the production conduit.
Setting is achieved by pressuring up the setting tubing string after dropping a ball on ball catcher or setting a plugging device at the setting string of the packer. And no tubing movement during setting. A set of segmented internal slip maintain the HD packer in the set position.
The VHDP packer consist of the upper button slip and the lower dovetail slip. The button slip that are actuated by annulus pressure from below the packer set against differential pressure from below, even under both tubing strings are plugged blow. And the lower dovetail slip holds the packer set against downward force. HD packer can be released and retrieved by a straight up pull on the primary tubing string. And the Setting and released force can be adjusted at field. When VHD packer is used as the upper packer where the lower packer is a single string packer, a safety joint should be installed under it so that the VHD packer can be released first.
Features & Benefits
- Hold down Button slip design to resist below pressure.
- Straight-pull shear release.
- Low setting pressure is requirement.
- Three element packing system ensure reliable pack-off.
- Allow to adjust the setting and release force at field.

Overview of Dual-string ESP packer
Dual-string ESP packers are used to optimize production in high Gas-Oil Ratio (GOR) wells, manage multiple zones, and protect casing. They improve ESP reliability by allowing effective gas separation/venting through the secondary string, preventing gas locking, extending run-life, and enhancing well deliverability.
Key reasons for using a dual-string ESP packer:
- ● Enhanced Gas Handling & Pump Performance: By separating free gas, the system prevents gas lock in the ESP, allowing it to handle higher Gas Volume Fractions (GVF).
- ● Extended ESP Run-Life: Reduced gas interference minimizes pump cavitation and stress, leading to fewer failures and lower intervention costs.
- ● Independent Zone Production: Allows for simultaneous production or injection in two different zones, or producing one zone with an ESP while another flows naturally.
- ● Improved Well Integrity:The dual packer provides a reliable pressure seal between the tubing and casing, protecting the casing from corrosive fluids and high pressure.
- ● Operational Flexibility: Facilitates easier intervention in complex wells, such as deep or deviated wells, without disrupting both zones.
This configuration is particularly beneficial for high GOR wells that would otherwise fail using standard single-string ESP setups.
